Microchipping
Microchipping is a legal requirement for all dogs over the age of eight weeks and from 10th June 2024 for all cats over the age of twenty weeks. We also provide microchipping for other small animals.
Microchipping your pet means that they can be permanently identified even if they lose their tag or collar, which means they are more likely to be reunited with their owner in the event they get lost.
Inserting a microchip is a quick and simple procedure. A needle is used to place the microchip under the skin, usually between the shoulder blades.
In the UK it is now a legal requirement for puppies to be microchipped and registered with owner details by the time they are eight weeks old. It is not a legal requirement for cats to be microchipped, but it is still strongly recommended in case they get lost.
It is important, and a legal requirement, to keep the microchip details up to date with your address and contact numbers.
